Maximum Principles at Infinity

We prove a general maximum principle at infinity for properly immersed minimal surfaces with boundary in R. An important corollary of this maximum principle at infinity is the existence of a fixed sized regular neighborhood for any properly embedded minimal surface of bounded curvature.

Singularity Exchange at Infinity

In families of polynomial functions one may encounter “singularity exchange at infinity” when singular points escape from the space and produce “virtual” singularities of the limit polynomial, which have themselves an influence on the topology. The total quantity of singularity involved in this phenomenon may not be conserved. Inspite of the fact that some of the ingredients do not behave well ...

On the geometry of Riemannian manifolds with a Lie structure at infinity

A manifold with a “Lie structure at infinity” is a non-compact manifold M0 whose geometry is described by a compactification to a manifold with corners M and a Lie algebra V of vector fields on M subject to constraints only on M rM0. This definition recovers several classes of non-compact manifolds that were studied before: manifolds with cylindrical ends, manifolds that are Euclidean at infini...

The Geometry at Infinity of a Hyperbolic Riemann Surface of Infinite Type

We study geodesics on planar Riemann surfaces of infinite type having a single infinite end. Of particular interest is the class of geodesics that go out the infinite end in a most efficient manner. We investigate properties of these geodesics and relate them to the structure of the boundary of a Dirichlet polygon for a Fuchsian group representing the surface.

Unfolding Polynomial Maps at Infinity

Let f : Cn → C be a polynomial map. The polynomial describes a family of complex affine hypersurfaces f−1(c), c ∈ C. The family is locally trivial, so the hypersurfaces have constant topology, except at finitely many irregular fibers f−1(c) whose topology may differ from the generic or regular fiber of f . We would like to give a full description of the topology of this family in terms of easil...
